My Review
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series and the premise had me hooked for this one. It sure started off with a bang, and the fast pace and action continued. For me personally the romance developed too quickly and took center stage over the rest of the plot, however I admit that I am a story first/romance second reader. So for those who are primary romance readers, this one is sure to be worth the read. Gilbert was a likable hero who felt the weight of his father’s actions, desiring to do what he could to correct them. Marian was effected by Gilbert’s father’s choices, but she had a family to provide for and had no choice but to keep going. How they came together may have been through unfortunate circumstances, but the characters themselves are what made it work. Because they were able to see outside of themselves and think of others. So while I wish the romance was toned down more for realism, I still liked the characters and how they selflessly fought for others.
