Convinced the answer to truly overcoming her addiction lies with her biological father, Sharon sends off a DNA test in the hope of finding him. When the results of the test aren’t as revealing as Sharon anticipates, she and Cassie team up to find the truth.

Meanwhile an old flame shows up. Sharon doesn’t think she can ever love again, but what Johnny offers seems like a dream come true. His charm and kindness shine so bright, Sharon can almost believe he’s changed.

As the search for her father continues to frustrate and tensions escalate with Cassie, Sharon wonders if leaving it all behind for a life with Johnny will save her crumbling heart.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Do you have a favorite Fall drink and/or dessert?

Yes! One of the many reasons Fall is my favorite season is because of the food. While pumpkin spice lattes hold a special place in my heart, my all-time favorite fall drink is warm, fresh-from-the-farm apple cider with a dash of cinnamon.

As for desserts, I’d have to say pumpkin anything. I don’t eat dairy, and pumpkin is incredibly versatile and forgiving when it comes to baking dairy-free.

Do you have a dedicated and/or favorite place to sit and write?

I do the majority of my writing in my home office, which is also where I spend most of my day doing the office work for my husband’s construction company. I have a couple of sections in the office reserved for writing related material. Someday I hope to have a writing cabin.

Where did your inspiration come from for this series?

The inspiration to write this series came from my own life. One Woman Falling was based, in part, on my own experience in an abusive marriage. The entire subplot of One Woman Falling (Nanny’s past and the story of the music box) was from a historical coming-of-age story I dreamed up in my early twenties but never wrote. The part of the subplot that was true to my own life was the alcoholic parent and the influence of grandparents in my life. One Way Home was inspired from my experience of having an alcoholic parent who made some mistakes but was a good, loving person. I think people who have never dealt with addiction firsthand can fail to see the hidden pain that often leads to addiction. One Way Home was my way of exploring that through a character who was inspired by my own mom.

What did you find the most challenging in writing such an emotionally charged story?

Emotions can be exhausting, so writing these stories was an investment of not only time but immense emotional energy. At the same time, it was also healing and increased my own compassion for others who are in difficult situations.

If you could sit and chat with Cassie, what advice would you give to her?

You’re stronger than you think. Even when you feel like everything is stacked against you, don’t give up—you are not in this alone! God has great plans for your life. Your suffering breaks His heart more than you can imagine. Trust God and He will bring you peace.

What do you hope readers will take away from your writing?

More than anything, I hope readers will realize how much God loves them and that His grace is inexhaustible. There is no problem too big or messy for Him!

Can you tease anything about what you are working on now or what is coming up next for you?

Right now, I’m working on the third book in my Whispers of Grace series. It continues the stories of Cassie and Sharon and is told in their alternating viewpoints. I’m really excited about it!
