Happy Thursday! I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize that the source of our peace, strength, and security in this life comes from Jesus, and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this posting blesses you and that you find strength and peace in the Lord today ❤
This week it’s on my heart to share:
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16 (ESV)
Last weekend my husband and I drove down to see some friends in Pennsylvania. They live close to the Crayola factory. (If you’ve never been there I highly recommend it). While there I came across some window markers (ok, I sought them out because I’ve had a hard time finding them locally), and was very excited to purchase them. Why? Because I have a big mirror in my bathroom and want to write on it! Going back several years, a friend of mine had a pack of window markers and every week she would write a different verse on her bathroom mirror to help memorize scripture. I’ve wanted to try it since, so I’m very excited to start.
Digging into the passage, if we are to have the words of Jesus dwell in our hearts, we have to spend time in it. The word “dwell” means to live in, which is more than simple knowledge. It should rest in our hearts and flow from our lips. It’s not only how we get to know God better, but how we get to know ourselves better. God’s Word is a manual for life and is vital to us like food and water.
What do you to to memorize scripture? Do you have something special you do in your home that helps you? I’d be curious to hear if you’ll share in the comments 🙂
I know this is a bit of a short message, but it’s a simple one. There are many benefits to reading and memorizing scripture and it strengthens our relationship with our Heavenly Father. It’s my encouragement and challenge for you today. With this in mind, I’ll end this week with the song “Thy Word” by Amy Grant. It’s focused on Psalm 119:105 that says God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. I hope you take a moment to listen to it and meditate on the truth it reveals. Hope you have a blessed rest of the week!
Now, it’s your turn!
What Biblical verse is encouraging you today?

It’s important to memorize scripture! Once you have those verses in your mind, they do return to your thoughts, sometimes when you need them most!
Yes they do! Love it when that happens 🙂
“The word “dwell” means to live in, which is more than simple knowledge. It should rest in our hearts and flow from our lips.” Amen! Memorizing Scripture has helped me through many difficult times, and is helping right now after the loss of my mom. As Psalm 119:11 says: “Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.” (NKJV) Thank you so much for this encouragement today!
Amen!
I am the absolute worse memorizer on this earth. Part of it has to do with the traumatic brain injury I sustained six years ago, part of it is because I’m getting older, and part of it has to do with exhaustion and mommy brain! The only thing that helps me is to constantly be in God’s Word. Like you pointed out, I have to dwell in it for it to stick!
Great post today, Becca! And, my daughter would LOVE visiting the Crayola factory. What a fun adventure.
I absolutely love this song. It is important to remember the message of this song.
