Janet W. Ferguson is a Grace Award winner, FHL Readers Choice Winner, and a Christy Award finalist. She grew up in Mississippi and received a degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Mississippi. She has served as a children’s minister and a church youth volunteer. An avid reader, she worked as a librarian at a large public high school. She writes humorous inspirational fiction for people with real lives and real problems. Janet and her husband have two grown children, one really smart dog, and a cat that allows them to share the space.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
How did your love of writing begin?
As a child, I had a little pink diary with a lock and key. From then on, I journaled. I often wrote poems (not very good ones, ha!). As an adult, I journaled and wrote little articles at work. Since I started writing fiction, I don’t journal officially anymore, but a friend says she sees my fiction as me journaling about issues I contemplate in life.
Do you have a favorite place to write?
So weird, I know, but I go in my room, close the door, and sit on my bed with lots of craft books and articles spread out all over, plus my computer.
Where did your inspiration from this story come from?
The hero Davis just jumped onto the page of The Art of Rivers! He made me laugh as I wrote that difficult story. I believe he was a gift from God! I knew I’d want to give him his own book at some point.
How long did it take from birth in your mind to handing in the final edits on this story?
This one took a year to write. The ideas floated around while I was writing Star Rising the year before though.
Was there a character that you resonated with the most?
Joy really reminded me of myself in that she held a lot of mommy-guilt. It’s so hard to balance time when you have young children, even when you are picking between good things. My children were young when I worked in children’s ministry at my church, and I sometimes feel like I chose my job over them. Still with the guilt even now…! We just have to pray and do the best we can though and let go of some of that worry.
What do you hope readers would take away from this story?
God can and will forgive us for our past sins, when we turn to Him, trust Him, and allow Him to have our life and our love. J
What’s up next for you?
I’ve started writing Healing Skye. It will be the story of Star’s sister, and the novel is set on Dauphin Island, Alabama. A lot of fun beach research there to come!!

I enjoyed the interview. The author’s journey of writing each book in a series is so interesting. For the Love of Joy is a story of forgiveness and restoration, definitely one I will enjoy.
