Happy Friday!
The book I’m featuring this week is:
Amazon | Goodreads
Summer 1933
“Momma, Momma, watch me.”
Y’all, if this book isn’t on your must-read TBR or already read pile– you need to remedy that! I won’t say too much because I’ll be sharing my full review next week as part of a blog tour, but this book had me hooked all the way through. Fans of Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate will be sure to devour it. HIGHLY recommend!!
About the Book:
A Desperate Mother Searches for Her Child
Step into True Colors — a new series of Historical Stories of Romance and American Crime
Widowed in Memphis during 1932, Cecile Dowd is struggling to provide for her three-year-old daughter. Unwittingly trusting a neighbor puts little Millie Mae into the clutches of Georgia Tann, corrupt Memphis Tennessee Children’s Home Society director suspected of the disappearance of hundreds of children. With the help of a sympathetic lawyer, the search for Millie uncovers a deep level of corruption that threatens their very lives.
How far will a mother go to find out what happened to her child?

I read Lisa Wingate’s book last year and really enjoyed it (as much as you can enjoy a book on that topic!) I’d love to read this one soon.
I’m featuring My Dearest Dietrich on my blog this week, but I also just finished reading Murder in the City of Liberty by Rachel McMillan, and since I loved it so much, I’m going to share the first line from Chapter 2 (because it’s too good not to share!):
“There really never was a good time to drown.”
Have a great weekend!
I really hope to read that one too! My review pile is so crazy high right now 😫
This book sounds like a fantastic, heart-wrenching story!
Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Ever Faithful by Karen Barnett. This wonderful story releases on June 16. It takes place in Yellowstone National Park in 1933. Swing on by and check out the first line!
Ok I’ll check it out! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Wow, I’ve never heard of the book! It looks VERY interesting!
It just released June 1 🙂
I added it to my TBR list!
Happy Friday!
The Pink Bonnet sounds interesting. It’s on my TBR pile and I hope to read it soon.
This week, I’m featuring Colleen Coble’s The Lightkeeper’s Bride on my blog. I’m also reading A Whisper of Peace by Kim Vogel Sawyer set in 1898 Alaska. I’m going to share the opening line: “Not once in all of her twenty-one years had Lizzie Dawson seen a moose behind her cabin.”
Hope you have a nice weekend 🙂
I haven’t read that one yet but I have a copy of it!
I’ve been hesitant about this novel because I loved, loved, loved Before We Were Yours and I’m wondering if this can possibly be as good as BWWY?
While it’s similar to BWWW, the point of view is different because it’s more about the mom’s search for her daughter than kids looking for their parents. I felt that it was very well written. My full review will be posting next Thursday if you’d like to see that for more details 🙂
Forgot to leave my first line from The King’s Mercy by Lori Benton: “Alex MacKinnon roused to the press of wood beneath his cheek and an ominous churning in his gut.”

Happy readerly Friday! I’m reading a new book right now!
“Just let go. The breeze lifted Lane Kent’s auburn hair from the back of her neck.”
Living Lies by Natalie Walters
I recently read that one as well! Hope you enjoy it!
Happy Friday!
On my blog I shared the first couple of lines from one of my current reads The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson. It’s an upcoming release by a debut author, a fantasy full of magic and conflict between warring kingdoms. I hope you give it a read when it comes out next month.
Here, though, let me share the first few lines from my other current read, Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa.
“It was raining the day Suki came to the Palace of the Sun, and it was raining the night that she died.”
I hope you’re having a good Friday so far. Happy weekend and happy reading! 😀
Thanks for stopping by I hope you have a great weekend too! 🙂
I’m absolutely certain the book is wonderful, but I find it too stressful to read. I just can’t do it. On my blog, I’m featuring A Chance at Forever by Melissa Jagears. Since it’s my current read, I will share the first line in Chapter Nine, which is where I left off: “You want me to cut all of this?” I hope your weekend is relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable!
I understand that highly emotional reads can be too much for people. For me I want a book that makes me FEEL, whether that’s happiness or sadness. I want to feel connected. I get that they can be very difficult to read though too.
I devoured it! Now I need to get to Before We Were Yours.
I’m sharing from Karen Barnett’s Ever Faithful on my blog today. Here is the first line from Chapter 2:
“What have you done now?” Nate kept his voice low as he tightened his fingers around his kid brother’s collar and glanced down the rain-darkened Brooklyn alley.”
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
Hope you enjoy it!
Great book! The whole series is so far!
Really want to read My Dearest Dietrich.
My first line is from The Number of Love by Roseanna White:
London, England 1917
The numbers marched across the page in a glory all their own.
Fabulous book as expected.
I’m reading The Number of Love right now too!
