Wondering Wednesday is a new weekly post started by my wonderful blogging friend Jessica over at A Baker’s Perspective. The idea is to give readers a chance to get to know the blogger behind all of the book reviews and other blog posts. I think this is a great idea and I’m glad to be a part of the fun 🙂

Question: What is the first book you remember reading?

My first “grown up” book that I remember reading (which also happens to be my first Christian Fiction one) was The Calling of Emily Evans by Janette Oke. I remember fiercely wanting to be allowed to read the books my grandma read but was always told I was too young (although…they weren’t all Christian romances either lol). I remember as I got a little older that she started to tell me that Christian books were safe for me, so instead of asking if I was allowed to read a book, I started asking if it was Christian. The day my grandma gave me my first Janette Oke book for my birthday is something I’ll always remember. My reaction was probably similar to a kid today being handed their first iPhone. I’m grateful that my grandma’s love of reading was passed down to me.

The image below is THE book. It will always hold a special place on my bookshelf <3

  1. I wasn’t a reader until I ran into the Bronte sisters books in high school for a term paper. I was not only hooked on their stories, I learned about the Traveling Iowa Library where I borrowed books the tiny Dexter Library didn’t have plus biographies of the family. I also found out I liked research and even term papers with those pesky footnotes!
