Title: The Mercy (Rose Trilogy Book 3)
Author: Beverly Lewis
Series: Rose Trilogy
Genre: Christian Fiction
About the Book:
“Rose Kauffman pines for prodigal Nick Franco, the Bishop’s foster son who left the Amish under a cloud of suspicion after his foster brother’s death. His rebellion led to the “silencing” of their beloved Bishop. But is Nick really the rebel he appears to be? Rose’s lingering feelings for her wayward friend refuse to fade, but she is frustrated that Nick won’t return and make things right with the People. Nick avowed his love for Rose–but will he ever be willing to sacrifice modern life for her?
Meanwhile, Rose’s older sister, Hen, is living in her parents’ Dawdi Haus. Her estranged “English” husband, injured and helpless after a car accident, has reluctantly come to live with her and their young daughter during his recovery. Can their marriage recover, as well? Is there any possible middle ground between a woman reclaiming her old-fashioned Amish lifestyle and thoroughly modern man?”
Review:
The final installment of the Rose Trilogy, The Mercy continues the stories Of Rose, her sister Hen, and others in their tight community. While hoping for reconciliation, Hen and her husband Brandon have been struggling on their way towards divorce. Can the LORD work in a mighty way to restore both their marriage and bring Brandon to faith in Christ? Rose has entered into a courting relationship with a young man named Isaac, but with Nick back in town (and seemingly repentant), can Rose find rest in her heart to know which man the LORD has planned for her?
This review is a brief one. Seeing as it’s the final book in a series, to share too much would be a spoiler. So short and sweet, I thoroughly enjoyed this series and feel that it was genuinely well written. Although some books in a series can be read as a stand-alone, The Rose trilogy is clearly not one of them. It very much reads more like a single book bound into three. Definitely highly recommend this series!
Rating:
Age Appropriateness: As with the other books in this series (and largely Beverly Lewis books as a whole), this book is a clean romance with a kiss being the only sexual content. I wouldn’t see a problem with girls 10-12 wanting to read this series. It’s not written for young girls, but definitely a read that is safe for them and will encourage them to make the right choices when it comes to boys and seeing how important those decisions are.
