When Larkin Maybie buries her mother in the foothills of Appalachia, she is left all alone. Her only inheritance? A crazy aunt, a mountain of debt, and a run-down, secluded cabin left by a mysterious benefactor. While Larkin thinks an escape to a cabin miles from anything familiar might be exactly what she needs, the quick answer to her problems only leaves her with more questions… Questions concerning her true identity.
As Larkin searches for her link to the Lewandowski Estate, she begins to accept the kindness of strangers on Presque Isle and the affection of professional baseball player, Ketch Devine. Charged with caring for the cabin’s honey bees and haunted by past choices, Larkin struggles to move forward in a new direction and is running out of time. With summer and baseball season coming to an end, she must decide: what is the value of true love?

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Have you always wanted to be an author or when did your love of writing first begin?
I’m not sure when my love of writing first began, but I remember the book that made me want to write. I was in fourth grade and my mom, an English teacher who was always giving me good books, presented me The Diary of Anne Frank. Anne’s words gave me and a mission. “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” It was since a silent prayer and then a desperate plea to our Lord that I could write something that would glorify Him.
When you’re not writing, what are some other fun hobbies you enjoy?
I’m a beekeeper and my family tends to the bees with me. We all eat way too much honey and enjoy a simple lifestyle. Lots of playing outdoors (I have young boys), fishing, and baseball games.
What was your inspiration for this story?
Life! Writing a story about a nurse from Appalachia and a kind and handsome professional baseball player was largely autobiographical! Though Larkin’s family and past struggles are not my own, I can relate with her stumbling and fumbling as she learns to trust Christ. Thank God He’s patient!
Is there a specific character you feel bonded to the most?
It has to be Larkin, partly because the story is written from her point of view, but also because of the aforementioned reasons.
What was the most challenging for you in completing this story?
I wanted readers to be entertained with this romance between Larkin and Ketch, but I also pray the story helps readers fall deeper in love with Jesus.
What is your hope that readers will take away from your writing?
Hope!
Are you able to share anything about what’s next for you?
Mum’s the word ;).
