The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls series follows siblings Peter and Mary and their dog, Hank, as they discover ancient scrolls that transport them back to key moments in biblical history.
In the first adventure in the series, Peter and Mary find themselves witnesses to the creation of the world just as God is speaking it into existence. Can they unlock the mystery of the scrolls before they get trapped in history forever? Children will discover the answer as the two characters ride rhinos, meet the angel Michael, and talk to a certain snake in the Garden of Eden. Riveting text and engaging illustrations bring this beloved Bible story to riotous life.
My Review:
I discovered this book when I saw a fellow blogger sharing recently about one of the later books in this series. Finding good clean, age-appropriate, interesting middle grade reads can be a difficult task. I felt like this was an engaging story that takes kids back to the creation of the world and gets them to wonder what it would have been like to be right in the center of it. There was mystery, humor, and adventure that is sure to intrigue young readers. They could read alone or with a friend or parent to spark conversation. I’m curious myself now to see how the author recreates the other Bible stories for the characters. I fully intend on reading more of them so I will share my thoughts on the others as well. The reading level is listed at ages 6-9 or grades 1-3. I would compare the level to the Magic Treehouse books if that is helpful. It’s a great story that shares biblical truth in a creative and adventurous way to appeal to kids. I highly recommend this series as a great option for kids.
I so enjoy this series
I definitely plan on reading more!
