All she wants is to trust in the Lord to help her find peace…but peace is the last thing she gets when Lucas, Jacob’s wayward older brother, returns to town.

Lucas Brenneman has been harboring a secret for years—the real reason he never returned from Rumspringa and the truth behind his brother Jacob’s death. Honey Brook still calls to him, but he knows his occupation as a physician’s assistant must take precedence. With sweet and beautiful Esther he finds a comfort he’s never known, and he feels like anything is possible…even forgiveness. But she was Jacob’s bride-to-be first. And if she knew the truth, would she ever truly open her heart to him?

ASK THE AUTHOR

Do you have a designated or favorite place to write?

Ah, this is a fun question! When I very first started writing, I had a designated desk with all of my “necessary” writing accouterments: huge dictionary, dilapidated thesaurus, at least three different lip balms, glasses, a rainbow of Flare pens (I’m still not sure why…) and all the Diet Cokes.

This was a great set up for a while, but isn’t the whole point of having a laptop so you can drag your computer wherever you want? So then, I tried the cafes and the Starbucks like all the other cool people. I even found a home at an IHOP for a while. But in the end, I would come back home…too easily distracted!

But the desk no longer worked, either. Back then, I was literally working on at least two books at the same time. One, I would be writing from scratch, the other was in some phase of the editing process. Therefore, it was eat, drink, and sleep writing. During this time, I also had about a million hours of shows recorded on my DVR. I mean, isn’t everything JJ Abrams required viewing for writers? After some trial and error, I found a very sweet spot on the center cushion of my couch. If ever I was “stuck” on something, I would turn on one of those shows to kind of zone out for 5-10 minutes. During the commercial breaks (yes, I was completely aware that I could fast forward through those), was when I forced myself to write something—if only for those few minutes it took for the show to come back on. Funnily enough, this was a great system for me when I had to be writing so often and so fast. And wasn’t Castle such a hilarious show?

Time went on, and my family grew. First a husband—man, it’s hard to write when you’ve got a whole other person in the house with you!—then we got Peanut, our adorable rescue Italian Greyhound mix. She’s seriously the love of our lives. We cannot get enough of our sweet baby! Anyway…Peanut is the lapdog of all lapdogs. As soon as I started working on Never an Amish Bride, I realized that perfect center cushion was no longer perfect. In fact, have you ever tried to type on a laptop with a dog on your lap? (Ha! Yes, you have! Because I see pictures of it on social media the time. We shall get through this, guys!)

So it was back to the old desk—only lip balm and bottled water accompanying me now. But guess what, Peanut STILL wanted to sit on my lap. Of course, having the cutest pup in the world wanting to snuggle with me wasn’t the worst problem in the world, but it made writing pretty much impossible.

Fast forward to Ophelia’s Writing Space 3.0, located at my day job’s office. Lunch hours and probably 5-6 hours every Saturday for 6 months was how I got through Never an Amish Bride. Then Covid 19 hit, and I’m back home again, working on the next book in the Honey Brook series, called The Amish Cowboy’s Homecoming.

Where am I writing now, you ask? Yep, I’m at the desk. Currently, on said desk are two pairs of glasses (yes, I’m older now!), the dog clicker because Peanut loves to bark at every living soul out the patio door), a Gatorade bottle filled with water, and two notebooks. Things have changed, but have they really?

If you’re a big-time reader, where is your favorite place to park it?
