You get up on Christmas morning and your stocking is full! You take it down and start to unwrap the treats inside. The first thing you see is…
An orange! Which book is refreshing and vibrant, both inside and out?
I’ve recently started enjoying fairy-tale retellings and Sarah Price has an interesting series out with Amish retellings. I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve read so far and look forward to reading more. So far my favorite one is Ella: An Amish Retelling of Cinderella
The next thing you see is a bag of chocolate coins. (Yum!) Which book have you recently bought that was expensive but totally worth the high price?
Like Audra (who tagged me), I am often a cheapskate as well when it comes to shopping. We both happen to share the same item for this one though. I purchased it for my husband for Christmas this year. I have the same Bible but in the NKJV translation.
You also pull out a bath bomb. Tell us about a book that had explosive action scenes.
I recently read Mind Games by Nancy Mehl and it was all kinds of loaded with action and suspense.
♦️ Next is a pack of playing cards. Which series won you over?
A Series that I read and really got into this year was the Unblemished trilogy by Sara Ella.
You also get a candle. Which character is a symbol of hope in their story?
Oh boy, this one is actually hard to pick a single one! I realize that I read a lot of emotional stories, but hope is definitely one of the themes I cling to in them as well. I’ll share The Hope of Azure Springs by Rachel K Fordham for this one.
There are socks inside too. Is there a book that you think really encompasses all the distinctive tropes of its genre?
As with Audra, I have no idea what to share for this but after a recent discussion on tropes I’ll share The Princess by Lori Wick. Everyone loves a good princess story right?
There’s also a notebook. Which author’s writing do you find most interesting/inspiring?
Terri Blackstock is an author I often can’t put her books down.
To go with the notebook, there’s a fancy pen. Is there a book or a series that you’d change if you’d written it yourself?
This may seem like an odd choice, but I’ll go with Utopia. Everyone has their own personal view on “the perfect world” right?
There’s also a small bedside clock. Which book took you a long time to pick up but was worth it in the end?
So I don’t know if this counts, but I purposely waited for the final book in the If I Run series by Terri Blackstock to come out before reading the first book. I knew I wasn’t going to want to wait to be able to read all of the books in the series together!
Your pile is getting really big. You reach in to pull out the last gift and it’s… a lump of coal? You’re a little disappointed. But you look closer and realize there’s a seam running through the coal. You crack it open and sitting inside is a tiny golden snitch. Tell us about a book that surprised you in some way.
This one is incredibly easy to share! As I mentioned in my review, a book that I almost didn’t pick up, was The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jaime Jo Wright. Ghosts (along with the paranormal in general), really freak me out and I thought it was going to be ghost-spooky but I was completely wrong and I’m super glad I gave it a chance!
I just have to say, that’s a pretty impressive stocking! I could never fit all that into my actual one. Would your answers have been the same? What bookish item did you hope to get for Christmas? Thanks for reading and happy holidays!!
An Amish retelling of Cinderella sounds really unique! I hope you had a great Christmas!
It is! I really enjoyed it. The series has one about Snow White and another about Belle so far but hopefully more get released 🙂 I had a wonderful Christmas spent with lots of family. Hope you had a great Christmas too!
