Welcome back to Memorable Monday!

The book I’m featuring this week is:

Until We Meet Again: A True Story of Love and Survival in the Holocaust
By: Michael Korenblit & Kathleen Janger

Amazon | Goodreads

Until We Meet Again was the first Holocaust book that I remember reading. A friend of mine in middle school read it first and let me read her copy. At the time I knew quite literally nothing about the Holocaust so I remember being shocked by many of the details and events the family went through. Since then I’ve read many books (fiction and non-fiction) about the Holocaust, but I still find myself reading them in hopes that the characters are all able to survive. When that doesn’t happen, I get super emotional. This book created my appreciation for Holocaust memoirs. Any book that can have that much of an effect is certainly memorable!

About the Book:
1942. A small town in Poland. Two Jewish families flee to hiding places, hoping to evade deportation by the Nazis. At the last moment, 17-year old Manya makes the heart wrenching decision to leave her family and join her sweetheart, Meyer, also 17, with his family. For three long years, Manya and Meyer endure the loss of their parents and siblings, separation from each other, and the horror of concentration camps, including Aushwitz-but are helped at key points by courageous Polish Catholics and are constantly sustained by their faith and their love for each other. Co-authored by the couple’s son Michael, this absorbing and suspenseful narrative reads like a novel, yet tells a true story of love and horror, sacrifice and courage, with a conclusion that is truly miraculous.

The book you highlighted reminds me of a book I read about Helen Keller when I was about middle school age. Based on a true story and very emotional! I hope you have a great week!
