His Encouragement Thursday #1

I am so excited to have been invited to share some encouragement from God’s Word on a weekly basis! And let’s be honest, by the time Thursdays roll around we could all use a little bit of encouragement!

For my first week I felt it was only fitting to share my favorite passage from the Bible:

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

~Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

I know that the passage contains some of the most widely quoted verses, but I have found that meditating on the truth they share is very comforting to me. I can be a very anxious person, and I have found that if I think on these verses, it gives me a calm to know that I don’t have to know everything, and that if I am trusting in the LORD for my direction in life, He won’t steer me wrong!

We as people like to do things “our own way.” It’s okay, you can admit it! But what we learn in the Bible is that as Christians we should strive to make our way line up with what is His way. How are we able to even know what His way is unless we are in the Word, praying, and spending time with Him! Plus, history has shown us just what happens when people (us included) try do life their own way.

The beauty of the cross is that it is “Jesus plus nothing”. Jesus paid the penalty we could never pay for our own sins so that we can have fellowship with the Father.  There is nothing more or less that we can do in order to earn our way into right relationship with Him. It’s not to say that once we become Christians we are suddenly “off-the-hook” and can do whatever we want, but one of the indicators of a heart turned to Christ is in the very “fruit” they bear. If Christ has truly changed our hearts, then our lives should be a reflection of that. But the good news is that God’s ways are always better than our ways! How freeing it is to know that as long as we are seeking God and His ways, that He will watch over us and guide our steps in life! Thank you Jesus!
