Happy Thursday!

I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize our daily need for Christ and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this post blesses you and that you find comfort, strength, and peace in the Lord today ❤

Sorry! Its been a few weeks since I’ve shared for His Encouragement Thursday because I was out of town. I had a wonderful time with some amazing fellowship and fun but now that I’m back home it’s back to normal life.

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

~Rom 1:8-17

We all know the words of the Great Commission: “go and make disciples” (Matt 28:19), but what does that really mean for each person? When we think about our spiritual gifts, God has made each of us different and unique in our own ways. There are people who are extroverts who can walk up to just about anyone and share their hearts with joy, and there are people who are introverts and start to sweat just thinking about having to talk to someone new. I don’t mean to say that we are never asked to step out of our comfort zones in faith, but I’ve also learned that we are uniquely gifted to share our faith in different ways. For example, if one of your gifts is hospitality, you can reach people through that gift and share of the hope that is within you. If writing is your gift then you can use words to either lead people to Christ and/or challenge them in their faith. If you’re good at meeting new people you can seek them out and welcome them into the fold of fellowship. Whatever it is that you are good at and and/or willing to be used in, God can use. We are the body of Christ. Just as a body has different parts with different functions, so too does the body of Christ. We aren’t all meant to be the same. God made each of us unique for a reason. The point isn’t if we can do everything our friends can do, but that we are allowing the Lord to work in us and through us to further His kingdom and to go and make disciples.

Now, it’s your turn!

  1. The Lord made all of us different, and I’m thankful for that! It’s so amazing to see how God uses different people because of their God given talents. We should not be ashamed to use the talents God has given to us 🙂

  2. Thank you for sharing these verses today, and reminding me to step out in faith. My struggle has always been that I’m not entirely sure what my gift is. When I take personality tests, they always rank me on the introvert side of things. Two days ago we took one in my AVID class and I scored a 90% introvert. As a person who struggles to be near a lot of people, I’ve often wondered what I’m good for. I do think my blog is one way God is using me, but my real struggle is comparing myself to others. Is my reach impressing God? I don’t ever want to disappoint God!

    • One of my absolute biggest struggles as well is comparing myself to others. I need to stop but I often feel that I don’t measure up like others are better than me at everything. I know that those thoughts are lies from Satan but I still struggle with them. Satan knows just where to attack us. Your blog is definitely a way that God uses you! I’ll be praying for you friend.

I love this! It is so very true that the Lord has given everyone different gifts and talents, which may align with our personality traits or may gently nudge us out of our comfort zone. But I do believe that the Lord can bless us with more than one gift and sometimes our gifts ebb and flow as we go through life and the Lord guides us into various positions and situations. We need to be always prayerful and allow Him to lead us.

Yet it is true that we may not know what our spiritual gifts are. Years ago, I took an assessment that helped me realize what areas the the Lord has blessed me in and it has been so helpful.

If interested, I searched the internet and found an assessment similar to the one I took years ago: https://youth.adventist.org/Resources/Spiritual-Gifts-Assessment
