His Encouragement #72

Happy Thursday!

I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize our daily need for Christ and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? Sorry! Its been a few weeks since I’ve shared for His Encouragement Thursday because I was out of town. I had a wonderful time with some amazing fellowship and fun but now that I’m back home it’s back to normal life.

First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. ⁹ For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you ¹⁰ always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. ¹¹ For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— ¹² that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. ¹³ I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. ¹⁴ I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. ¹⁵ So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. ¹⁷ For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

We all know the words of the Great Commission: “go and make disciples” (Matt 28:19), but what does that really mean for each person? When we think about our spiritual gifts, God has made each of us different and unique in our own ways. There are people who are extroverts who can walk up to just about anyone and share their hearts with joy, and there are people who are introverts and start to sweat just thinking about having to talk to someone new. I don’t mean to say that we are never asked to step out of our comfort zones in faith, but I’ve also learned that we are uniquely gifted to share our faith in different ways. For example, if one of your gifts is hospitality, you can reach people through that gift and share of the hope that is within you. If writing is your gift then you can use words to either lead people to Christ and/or challenge them in their faith. If you’re good at meeting new people you can seek them out and welcome them into the fold of fellowship. Whatever it is that you are good at and and/or willing to be used in, God can use. We are the body of Christ. Just as a body has different parts with different functions, so too does the body of Christ. We aren’t all meant to be the same. God made each of us unique for a reason. The point isn’t if we can do everything our friends can do, but that we are allowing the Lord to work in us and through us to further His kingdom and to go and make disciples.
