Happy Thursday!
I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize our daily need for Christ and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this post blesses you and that you find comfort, strength, and peace in the Lord today ❤
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
~Exodus 14:14
Do you ever find yourself heaping a ton of pressure on yourself when it comes to overcoming obstacles in life? Does your mind race through in fear over all of the possibilities and outcomes? Or do you do the opposite and stick your head in the ground like an ostrich hoping things will all work out by the time you lift your head?
It’s important to keep the original context in mind when we look at this verse. It takes place right after the Israelites escaped Egypt and are being pursued by the Egyptians. It’s the scene right before the parting of the Red Sea. After witnessing mighty wonders that God did prior to their freedom, it’s amazing how short term their memory is.
I don’t know about you, but I confess that if I were standing before a body of water as big as the Red Sea and looked back to a herd of Egyptian soldiers pursuing me, I think it’s safe to say there’d be a whole lot of fear there. But what this passage of scripture tells us is that there is no hurdle too big for our God. He’s the one who created the world and He is the one with power over it. This doesn’t mean that God will work every “kink” out for us and jump in to save the day every time we end up in rough waters, but it does mean that He is always with us and is bigger than anything that can be put before us. God doesn’t expect us to fight our battles all on our own or on our own strength. He wants us to look to Him and trust that nothing happens that catches Him by surprise or out of His control. We are entirely dependent on Him, and it’s those moments of complete surrender to Him that our relationship is able to grow deeper and more fully in Him.
Do you find yourself in a circumstance right now that has you feeling fearful or hopeless? I hope you find encouragement in this today that God is with you and won’t leave you to deal with it all on your own. Look up and seek Him. Pray. Trust that no matter what you’re facing, He’s bigger. I can’t promise that things will work out as you’d like, but I can tell you that God already knows the outcome and has gone before you. Seek Him. Lean on Him. Trust Him. “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Now, it’s your turn!
