Happy Thursday! I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize our daily need for Christ and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this post blesses you and that you find comfort, strength, and peace in the Lord today ❤

Ever feel exhausted and excited at the same time? As I write this post it’s actually Wednesday afternoon, but I will be on the road headed to CFRR tomorrow morning so I’m writing my post early. I’ve been up almost 24 hours right now and hoping to last a few more hours so I can make it to youth group tonight before I hit my pillow and conk out. Hopefully it’ll get me flipped to sleeping at night for the weekend. Y’all, I seriously can’t wait!

Thinking about my post for today and my weekend ahead, I couldn’t help but think about how grateful I am for Christian fiction. While nothing can replace the actual Word of God, Christian fiction can also be used by Him to reach others. It can help soften the hearts of unbelievers and make them more receptive to hearing about Christ. For the believer it’s something fun to do that looks to glorify God through the pages and not the world.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Colossians 3:1-2 (NIV)

Depending on the genre within, secular fiction has a tendency of glorifying the things of this world. Foul language, violence, and sexual content are very popular to find within their pages. I’m grateful that even if there is some difficult content to handle in Christian fiction books, they still aim to glorify God. I know personally of people who have come to Christ through reading Christian fiction. While it can never replace the Word of God, it doesn’t mean He can’t still use it.

When it comes to the books your reading or the shows or movies you watch on TV, I just want to encourage you today to make sure that you are using discernment as to what you are filling your mind with. Are you seeking entertainment that glorifies the things of this world or the things of God?

Now, it’s your turn!

What Biblical verse is encouraging you today?

  1. Discernment is a big deal. I try so hard to make sure what I am reading, watching, and listening to glorify God and not the world. I notice that I am generally uplifted by Christian fiction, even when it might contain sadness, because the authors have hearts for Jesus and this plays out in their stories, Choosing things that honor God should be a top priority.
