his encouragement

Happy Thursday! I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize that the source of our peace, strength, and security in this life comes from Jesus, and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this posting blesses you and that you find strength and peace in the Lord today ❤

This week I’m sharing:

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
~Colossians 3:23

Have you ever fallen into the trap of people pleasing? Do you you run on an endless cycle of approval addiction? I’ll be the first to admit that this is something I’ve really fought with myself. But our concern shouldn’t be whether or not we are pleasing to others around us, but to our Father above. Whatever we do, we should be doing it for Him and His glory. We shouldn’t be basing our actions on what others would think of us, but rather seeking the Lord and He would have us do.

We should also make sure that whatever we do, we do it well as if we are solely doing it for God alone. Whether that’s in the workplace, at home with (or without) kids and/or husband, in our church, a volunteer organization, school, or wherever else life hands us, we should give our all. Our primary focus should be living life for the Lord and striving to be more like Christ, who himself came to serve and not to be served (Matt 20:28, Mark 10:45).

This week I’ll end with the worship song More of You by Colton Dixon. I hope you take a moment to listen and meditate on the truth it reveals. Hope you have a blessed rest of the week!

Now, it’s your turn!

  1. I needed this verse today! I’m struggling to get ready for the new school year. This reminder helped me put my focus back in track. Instead of chaos and trying to please Admin, other teachers, and students (which is so overwhelming ), I just need to plan my new school keeping in mind to please God. I’m there to do the work He has for me.

Amen, amen, amen! It is easy to fall into the habit of trying to please other people: our spouses, our parents, our church, our bosses, etc. But what really matters is pleasing the Lord. Sometimes that might mean saying “no” to others in order to say “yes” to God.

Whatever we do, we need to do our best, not for our own glory, but for the glory of God.
