his encouragement

Happy Thursday! I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize that the source of our peace, strength, and security in this life comes from Jesus, and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this posting blesses you and that you find strength and peace in the Lord today ❤

This week it’s on my heart to share:

28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
    his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
    and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30 Even youths shall faint and be weary,
    and young men shall fall exhausted;
31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.
~Isaiah 40:28-31 (ESV)

I actually thought of this passage this week because of hearing the child’s voice quoting it at the end of the song Everlasting God by Lincoln Brewster (which I will end with below). While yes, it’s very poetic, there is so much truth and hope in this passage. In my mind I picture standing on the edge of a boat with my arms open wide and just taking in the love of Christ. (Think of the scene in Titanic but God’s holding your arms out instead of Jack). I think of letting go of all the cares of this world and knowing that even if danger is ahead (or was behind), I know that God has me in His arms and I can rest in Him. When I am weak, He is strong.

For me this passage feels like a breath of fresh air. Regardless of the type of mood I’m in, this is one of those passages I like to close my eyes and meditate on. It holds so much truth in just a few short verses. Yes, we will have moments in this life where we feel like we can’t stand, but it’s in those moments that God’s strength will hold and carry us until we can once again stand. We are not expected (nor are we able) to stand on our own through this life without ever falling. I think as people (particularly in this day and age), we feel constant pressure like we are always supposed to have it all “figured out” and have our lives appear as if nothing bad ever happens, but in truth that’s not possible. We have days where our homes look like a tornado struck, or our kids have one meltdown after another, or our anxiety appears to build for no apparent reason, or everything seems to break at the same time, or whatever the reason may be that tears us down. None of us have a cookie-cutter perfect life. None of us (Christians included!) have it all together, and we all need God’s strength just to get through some days. We have a God who is bigger than anything we may be going through in this life, and He is there to catch us when (not if!) we fall.

If you are feeling down or discouraged today, or even if you are currently feeling perfectly content, I hope this passage is able to encourage you today. As always, feel free to contact me anytime if you need someone to talk with or pray with you. I will end with the song Everlasting God, and I encourage you to close your eyes and meditate on the words. Listen straight to the end, as it ends with today’s passage. God bless! <3

  1. Thank you, Becca for sharing this verse from Isaiah today! It is a favorite of mine! It is comforting to know that God never grows tired and that He will give us His strength.
