his encouragement

Happy Thursday! I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize that the source of our peace, strength, and security in this life comes from Jesus, and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this posting blesses you and that you find strength and peace in the Lord today ❤

This week I’m sharing from the Psalms:

“I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
~Psalm 18:1-2

These two verses are such a comfort to me. You know the story about the man who built his house on the sand and the man who built his house on a rock? (The story is found in Matthew 7:24-27 for reference). That’s the story I think of when I read these verses. What am I building my very life on? Knowing that God is THE rock, my desire should be to stand on that truth and believe it with all my heart.

I confess that I struggle with anxiety. I have for many years. Verses like these are an encouragement to me because I look at them and think “Am I trusting God as my rock through this?” or even “God is bigger than my situation and He is in control through this all. I don’t need to be.” Part of taking our thoughts captive is not only recognizing the negative thoughts that enter, but filling our minds with the truth in scripture. It is a comfort to me to know that I don’t always need to be the strong one. I don’t always need to try and control every situation. God is not made of sand, so if I freely release control to Him, He cares for me and is unchanging. I can’t change God, but He can certainly change me.

I hope this is encouraging to you today. I highly recommend memorizing and meditating on this verse and what it means to you. Write it on your mirror or a note card, underline or highlight it in your Bible. Recognize that you don’t always have to be the strong one, but that you have a mighty God who you can rest in and trust with your whole heart.

I was initially intending to end with a different worship song this week but I came across this one on YouTube and had to share it. It’s new to me but the lyrics are powerful. I’d encourage you to close your eyes and just meditate on the words.

Now, it’s your turn!

What Biblical verse is encouraging you today?

  1. I love your post!!! You make an excellent point…is God my rock through it all, or am I building my foundation on sand? It’s a wonderful reminder for me today. Thank you, Becca!!!

  2. Wonderful reminder. My daughter suffers from anxiety and is slowly learning how to give that all over the the Lord. This is one I’ll be sharing with her. Thank you!!
