ABOUT THE BOOK

grace and lavenderTitle: Grace & Lavender
Author: Heather Norman Smith
Publisher: Ambassador International
Genre: Contemporary Fiction
Release Date: March 1, 2019

Recently retired Colleen Hill is always busy, constantly on a quest to make life more interesting.

When the ladies’ group at her church partners with the local children’s home, Colleen jumps in as usual, volunteering to share her passion for cooking with a troubled teenager named Grace. But Colleen must balance the new project with her pursuit of becoming a contestant on a television game show, along with all the other ideas her brain continually spins out.

Colleen’s daughter Melody is quite different. She lives a calm, simple life and is content with who she is. That is, until an unexpected opportunity to work with Grace, too, pushes her to reevaluate life and dare to take on bigger dreams. The path starts with a newly-found interest in soap-making and leads her to responsibilities she didn’t even know she wanted, including helping Grace understand the meaning of her name.

Grace & Lavender is a book for all audiences—a heart-warming story that reminds us to seek God’s purpose for our lives.

EXCERPT

Becky sat in her stuffy office, with papers and files scattered all around her. She pushed her short hair behind her ear and stared at the mess as she processed for the thousandth time what it all meant. Each file represented a person, a young life with unimaginable potential. The papers in front of her represented impressionable minds and pliable hearts just waiting to be guided and molded into the version of themselves they were meant to be. More than black letters on white paper, the documents and folders she possessed represented unrealized dreams of a family and a place to belong. They represented a child waiting, some hopefully and some without any hope, for something that might never happen.

Becky regularly prayed over each paper file. Some of them showed the signs—small, ringed water spots where her tears had fallen. On the days when she became so overwhelmed with grief, it wasn’t just for the children in her care. She grieved also for all the people who missed out on loving those children and being loved by them.
