first line friday

Happy Friday!

The book I’m featuring this week is:

something-needs-to-change

Amazon | Goodreads

Alone in a guesthouse at the base of the Himalayas, I found myself on my knees, face to the floor, sobbing.

If you have ever heard David Platt preach it doesn’t take long to see his heart for world missions. A few years ago my church started dialing-in to his annual webcast of Secret Church which aims to pray and give aid to those in countries where sharing the Gospel is not only illegal, but highly dangerous. It was at the most recent Secret Church event that occurred in April of this year, that he shared about his excitement for the coming release of this book. As of Tuesday this week it is now officially released 🙂 Currently I am about halfway through and have to say that so far it is one incredibly powerful read. I highly suggest you grab a copy and start reading yourself. I’ll be sharing my full review most likely within the next few days.

About the Book:

The New York Times best-selling author of Radical takes readers on a soul-searching journey through impoverished villages in the Himalayan mountains, daring them to make a difference in a world of urgent need, starting right where they live.

“Grippingly vulnerable and unforgettable. I could not put this book down.”–Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts

While leading a team on a week-long trek of the Himalayas, bestselling author and pastor David Platt was stunned by the human needs he encountered, an experience so dramatic that it “changed the trajectory of my life.” Meeting a man who’d lost his eye from a simple infection and seeing the faces of girls stolen from their families and trafficked in the cities, along with other unforgettable encounters, opened his eyes to the people behind the statistics and compelled him to wrestle with his assumptions about faith. In Something Needs to Change, Platt invites readers to come along on both the adventure of the trek, as well as the adventure of seeking answers to tough questions like, “Where is God in the middle of suffering?” “What makes my religion any better than someone else’s religion?” and “What do I believe about eternal suffering?” Platt has crafted an irresistible message about what it means to give your life for the gospel–to finally stop talking about faith and truly start living it.

I’m excited to read this one! Today I’m sharing from You Belong with Me by Tari Faris on my blog. I’m currently reading As the Light Fades by Catherine West, so I’ll share that first line here: “The man staring back at me looks old.”

    Have a great weekend! 🙂

Since I just finished this one this morning, I’ll give the first line in it. Great book!

My first lines are from Undercover Twin by Heather Woodhaven

Audrey Clark adjusted her crossbody bag as she stepped out, under the cover of stars. The atmosphere matched her mood, dark and uncomfortable

I’m sharing the first 2 lines from Foremost by Jody Hedlund.
I crouched next to Edmund behind the boulder. The harpy eagle circled overhead, her gray-and-white markings blending with the frosty winter sky.

  5. Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from A Christmas Haven by Cindy Woodsmall and Erin Woodsmall. It’s a great Christmas novella that I am thoroughly enjoying. I’m currently on chapter 17, so I will share the first line from there.

“The sun hung low on the horizon as Arlen released twenty-four cows from the milking parlor into the pasture.”

Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading!

I’m currently reading You Belong With Me by Tari Faris. I’m on chapter 17 so I’ll share that first line here: ” Almost three months ago, she’d sat here confident she could fix this town, and now she didn’t even think she could fix her own life.” I hope you have a great weekend!

Happy Friday! My first line(s) is from “I Don’t Chase the Garbage Truck Down the Street in My Bathrobe Anymore!” by Dianne Barker:

“Weddings make me laugh. It’s that pledge to the spouse, “All my worldly good I thee endow.” If my husband had only known!”

  8. I’m sharing from Aiming for Love by Mary Connealy on my blog today, so I’ll share the second line:

“She smiled inside, but kept the emotion tucked away.”

Happy reading and have a great weekend!
