first line friday

Happy Friday!

This week I’m featuring:

the-brides-of-big-valley

Amazon | Goodreads

Since it’s a 3-in-1 romance I’ll share the first line from each of them:

Deanna’s Determination:

Deanna Speicher hurried to set up her table at the flea market, all the while trying to keep her five-year-old son in tow.

Rose Mary’s Resolve:

Rose Mary hurried over to her father’s furniture shop.

Leila’s Longing:

Leila Fisher stretched her arms above her head, squeezing her eyes closed as she rotated her legs off the mattress.

The Brides of Big Valley just released earlier this week, and I’m hoping to dig into my copy very soon. Each of the three stories seems intriguing so I’m anxious to dig into them 🙂

About the Book:

3 Short Stories of Love in a Unique Amish Community

In an area of Pennsylvania called The Big Valley, a uniquely blended Amish community thrives in which 3 distinct groups of Amish identify themselves by the colors of their buggy’s top—white, black, or yellow. Join New York Times Bestselling Author Wanda E. Brunstetter, her daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in experiencing the stories of three young women who search for faith and love within this special place. Deanna is a widow who sees her second chance of love slipping away. Rose Mary is at a point in life where she must choose the path of her faith and the right man to walk with her on it. Leila is burdened with family responsibilities and wonders when she will ever start a family of her own.

Now it’s your turn!

Three generations of author in one volume – what a unique concept!

I’ve got a combination first line and cover reveal over on my blog today, sharing the first line and the cover from A Girl’s Guide to the Outback by Jessica Kate. I’ve had the privilege of reading an early draft, and I’m looking forward to reading the final version!

In the meantime, I will console myself with reading Jessica Kate’s debut novel, Love and Other Mistakes, which releases next month. Here’s the first line:

“Natalie Groves eyed the bag of gingerbread M&M’s on the other side of the office meeting room and prayed for a divine intervention of Red Sea proportions.”

  2. Kay Garrett

Polly was sad yet excited. This very morning at the breakfast table, her father had told the family that they were moving to Texas.
    POLLY by Mary Christner Borntrager

My first line is from The Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund:
    London, England. May, 1862
“Hang on a little longer, my lamb,” Mercy Wilkins shifted the listless infant in her arms without slowing her pace.

  4. I’m so very glad today is Friday!
Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from More Than Words Can Say by Karen Witemeyer. Here I’ll share the first line from Chapter 2 of the same book.

“Choosing a husband was much like choosing a good baguette.”

  5. Happy Friday! I know I’m late but today was a busy day. It was the last day of school!!!!
Anyways, today on my blog I am sharing the first paragraph from A Noble Guardian by Michelle Griep. It’s a FANTASTIC novel. You can see my post by following the link: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/06/06/first-line-friday-90/. I am just starting Murder at the Flamingo by Rachel McMillan, so I will post the first few lines from there.

“Heartbeat, Hamish. Assess your surroundings. Acknowledge the trigger point. Assure a corner for a quick retreat before the symptoms draw attention.”

Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading!

  6. I’m a little late. Busy day. On my blog, I’m featuring The Insanity of God by Nik Ripken. Here, I will share the first line from Chapter 19. “The authorities moved Dmitri a thousand kilometers away from his family and locked him in a prison.” I hope you will have a wonderful weekend.

Happy Weekend! My first line is from “Cabbages and Kings: Reflections on Living Abundantly in Christ” by Dianne Barker:

“I didn’t have an ordinary childhood and I didn’t have ordinary dreams.”

  8. Happy Friday! I’m sharing from an upcoming release today, Belinda Blake and the Snake in the Grass by Heather Day Gilbert. Here is the first line from Chapter 2:

“The first person I saw was Jacques, who was driving a lawnmower directly up an incline that made me hold my breath for his safety.”
