first line friday

Happy Friday!

This week I’m featuring:

fated

Amazon | Goodreads

We’re Trapped. Thin glass and steel are all that separates us from hate and fury, and fear grips my guts inside, crushes breath from my lungs.

Have you ever been so excited for a book to release that you’re willing to have it shipped internationally when it’s not released in your own country?? That’s this one right here for me. The Slated series is hands down my favorite YA dystopian and so when I discovered the author was coming out with a prequel I jumped with excitement… only to discover it was only releasing in the UK 🙁 But as luck would have it, I was still able to buy it on Amazon and have it shipped to me. It even made me feel special to receive an email stating that I had a package coming from “The Royal Mail” (yes, I know that’s the standard name for their mail but it’s still cool haha). It just arrived yesterday so I will definitely be digging into this soon!

*PLEASE NOTE: Since almost all books I share on here are Christian, I just want to point out that this one is secular fiction*

About the Book:

I’m just one girl. What can I do?

Sam’s cosy life as daughter of the Deputy Prime Minister is about to end. These are turbulent times. Borders have closed and protests are turning violent. The government blames the country’s youth, and is cracking down hard. Mobile phones are blocked, gatherings are banned and dissent is brutally crushed.

Sam is torn between family loyalty and doing what is right. when she meets Ava and Lucas her mind is made up.

One girl, one choice. She can make a difference: she must. Even if her life – and her heart – are on the line …

About the Author:Teri Terry

Teri has lived in France, Canada, Australia and England at more addresses than she can count, acquiring three degrees, a selection of passports and a silly name along the way. Past careers have included scientist, lawyer, optometrist, and, in England, various jobs in schools, libraries and an audiobook charity. The footpaths and canal ways of the Buckinghamshire Chilterns where she now lives inspired much of the setting of Slated. She hates broccoli, likes cats, and has finally worked out what she wants to do when she grows up.

Now it’s your turn!

Happy Friday and weekend! My first line is from “KNOX: The Montana Marshalls” by Susan May Warren:

“Oh goody, now Knox go to watch his trouble-making little brother break his ornery neck.”

  2. I shared from Convergence by Ginny Yttrup on my blog, but here I will share from The Lady of Tarpon Springs by Judith Miller. I lived the first year of my marriage in that town. “Zanna Krykos closed her eyes and offered a silent prayer for God’s direction.”

The sheriff’s office and the barbershop were in the same building because the sheriff and the barber were the same man. Penny Scott suspected the man made more money at his barbering.

  4. Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from A Hero for Miss Hatherleigh by Carolyn Miller: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/03/14/first-line-friday-79/. I am really enjoying the story! I am currently in the middle of chapter 19, so I will leave a line from that chapter.

“Gideon waited in the drawing room, not daring to sit down, not daring to pace as he’d like to, in case the stoic footman at the door see him and make a fuss. What was taking her so long?”

Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! 🙂💜📚

  5. I shared the first line from Liz Johnson’s Christmas at the Red Door Inn on my blog today, but I just started Castle on the Rise by Kristy Cambron last night, and I thought I’d share the first line from it instead, “Fairy tale weddings never included rain on the guest list.”

    Happy Friday!

  6. I’ve done that! Book depository is a handy website for it.

Happy Friday! Over on my blog I’m sharing from the first book in Robin Patchen’s Beauty in Flight trilogy. This is the first line from the second book, Beauty in Hiding:

    “Of course it was raining.”

  7. This sounds intriguing! I might have to check it out myself.

I’ve shared the first line from Crystal Walton’s “Romancing the Conflicted Cowboy” on my blog, but since I’m reading Carolyn Miller’s “A Hero for Miss Hatherleigh” right now, I’ll share the first line of the scene I’m up to (in chapter 5):

Gideon looked up from the specimen and almost dropped it.

    Have a great weekend 🙂
