first line friday

Happy Friday!

The book I’m featuring this week is:

night-road

Amazon | Goodreads

She stands at the hairpin turn on Night Road.

Y’all, I listened to this book on audio and it wrecked me but it was such a powerful story and so real. I shared my full review yesterday (click HERE to view), but as many tearjerkers as I’ve read before this one really got to me. Yes, if you have a heart you will cry, but it’s a very harsh reality that happens with the youth today and a message they need to hear loud and clear.

*Just FYI this is secular fiction*

About the Book:

Jude Farraday is a happily married, stay-at-home mom who puts everyone’s needs above her own. Her twins, Mia and Zach, are bright and happy teenagers. When Lexi Baill enters their lives, no one is more supportive than Jude. A former foster child with a dark past, Lexi quickly becomes Mia’s best friend. Then Zach falls in love with Lexi and the three become inseparable. But senior year of high school brings unexpected dangers and one night, Jude’s worst fears are confirmed: there is an accident. In an instant, her idyllic life is shattered and her close-knit community is torn apart. People—and Jude—demand justice, and when the finger of blame is pointed, it lands solely on eighteen-year-old Lexi Baill. In a heartbeat, their love for each other will be shattered, the family broken. Lexi gives up everything that matters to her—the boy she loves, her place in the family, the best friend she ever had—while Jude loses even more.

When Lexi returns, older and wiser, she demands a reckoning. Long buried feelings will rise again, and Jude will finally have to face the woman she has become. She must decide whether to remain broken or try to forgive both Lexi…and herself.

Night Road is a vivid, emotionally complex novel that raises profound questions about motherhood, loss, identity, and forgiveness. It is an exquisite, heartbreaking novel that speaks to women everywhere about the things that matter most.

    It was a nightmare.
Lightning flashed across the black sky. Thunder boomed so close that vibrations shook the ground. Rain, mixed with pebble-sized hail, pelted the van’s window with enough force, it seemed the glass might now withstand the impact.

Happy Friday and Weekend! My first line is from “Castle on the Rise” by Kristy Cambron:

“Fairy-tale weddings never included rain on the guest list. Or snow – and they had both.”

  3. That was an intense book. My book club read it a few years ago. It generated a lot of good discussion. My first line comes from Almost Home by Valerie Fraser Luesse — Anna Williams leaned out the truck window and let the wind blow her damp auburn hair away from her face.

  4. Thank you for sharing!

My first line is from On Magnolia Lane by Denise Hunter; Jack McReady had fallen in love with Daisy in one-hour increments.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Blessings~💖

  5. Great choice. Loved that book.

My first line comes from Remembrance by Suzie Waltner:
“Who would have thought a little drive would turn into this fiasco?

  6. Oh, my! It gave me chills just reading the description of the book you shared. On my blog, I shared A Changed Agent by Tracey J. Lyons. Since it’s my current read, I will share the first line in Chapter Two, which is where I’ve only gotten to so far. “Elsie knew little about William Benton, but as she looked at his niece’s and nephew’s faces, she was certain these children needed someone other than just their uncle to care for them.” I’m already enjoying this writer and I’m excited about reading the rest of this novel.

  7. I’m sharing from Katherine Wentworth by D.E. Stevenson on my blog today. Here’s a semi-random sentence from the e-book page I’m on:

“All around us were the rolling hills, one behind the other as far as eye could see; they were like huge green billows in a rough Atlantic gale, which had suddenly frozen into a state of immobility. Later they would be clad in heather, purple as the robes of a king.”

Happy reading and have a wonderful Friday and Weekend!
