first line friday

Happy Friday!

On a completely different note from my post today, I just wanted to share a quickly about my giveaways going on for my blogiversary post I shared earlier this week. They are open until next Saturday if you’d like a chance to enter 🙂

This week the book I’m featuring is:

american-omens

Amazon | Goodreads

The spiderweb cracks in the windshield made it easy to spot the old Chevy SUV in the parking lot.

I am thrilled that I was accepted to be a part of the launch team for this book through Waterbrook & Multnomah. I just received my copies (yes copies!) in the mail this week and started reading it today. As I have an extra copy of the book you’ll have to stop back when I share my full review because I’ll be running a giveaway for it! I am about halfway through it now but it has me hooked. It’s similar in concept to the Left Behind series but isn’t centered around the rapture but increasing intolerance of Christianity. Definitely an intense read so far!

About the Book:

In this taut thriller that imagines a near-future America following the decline of the Religious Right, where the Christ-followers who have anticipated a rising intolerance for their beliefs for decades find out they’re right after all.

In the US in 2038, a secret society is imposing its agenda on outspoken Christian leaders, killing when necessary. Corporate regulations restrict religious expressions and policies. A recent convert, Hutchence, uses creative and guerilla-like techniques to spread the Gospel of Jesus. This enigmatic man enlists a rag-tag group of individuals to help him proclaim a warning to the rest of the country: God is sending his judgment on our nation, and his first act will be to destroy Chicago. One recruit is a young and talented computer analyst who specializes in mastering algorithms for corporate and political use, and who is on the run from the company she works for, while trying to discover the truth about her father’s mysterious disappearance. Another is a conspiracy-theory-junkie & survivalist who has discovered proof of assault on people of the Christian faith. And a widower with three girls is recruited by this mysterious Hutchence to help lead a return to God in America.

About the Author:Travis Thrasher

Bestselling author Travis Thrasher has written over 50 books, spanning genres in fiction, nonfiction and children’s literature. His inspirational stories have included collaborations with filmmakers, musicians, athletes, celebrities and pastors.

With the childhood goal of pursuing a writing career starting in third grade, Thrasher worked for 13 years at Tyndale House Publishers after graduating college. His experience working with authors allowed him to understand the writing life as well as training him to work with a variety of personalities. This experience has proven to be valuable with co-writing projects.

His novels are as diverse as the people he’s worked with, ranging from love stories to supernatural thrillers. This storytelling ability has also allowed him to work with others on their books, from country musician and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery to Bill Klein and Jen Arnold, reality TV stars of The Little Couple. Upcoming projects continue to expand his talents, with projects including Olympic Pride, American Prejudice about the lives of the other 17 American black athletes who competed in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and Baby Don’t Hurt Me about comedian Chris Kattan’s life and time on Saturday Night Live.

Travis lives with his wife and three young daughters in a suburb of Chicago and fittingly enough will have a children’s book entitled Brave Girls Confidential released later in 2017.

  1. Sounds like a great read! I’m featuring Allison Pittman’s “The Seamstress” on my blog this week, and since I’ve just begun chapter 20, I’ll share that first line here:

“It was a hunger like she’d never known.”

    Have a great weekend!

  2. Kay Garrett

“So then I got all confused. Agnes Zook waved her hands through the air as she tried to describe to her captive, green audience what had happened.

  3. On my blog, I’m featuring The Chieftain’s Choice by Elaine Manders. Since this is my current read, I will share here from chapter six, which is where I’m at in the book. Alana looked out on the rain-drenched courtyard from her bedroom window while rain snakes slithered down the pane. She shivered, though not from cold.

I wish you an enjoyable weekend!

Happy Friday! My first line is from “Falling for Grace” by Janet W. Ferguson:

    “It was finally over.”

  5. I’m currently reading Indivisible by Travis Thrasher and looking forward to reading my launch team copy of American Omens, too!

I’m sharing the first line from Death in the Stocks by Georgette Heyer on my blog today. Here’s the second line:

“No lamp shone in the window but a full moon sailed in a sky the colour of sapphires, and lit the village with a pale light, as cold as the sheen on steel.”

    Happy Friday!

  6. Paula Shreckhise

My first lines are from A Return of Devotion by Kristi Hunter

    Marlborough, England. 1816

She should have been prepared. After all, she’d had two months to imagine this moment. In truth she’d done little else besides imagine all the possible scenarios, each one worse than the last.
    But she hadn’t imagined this.
