Happy Friday!

This week is a special week to feature books about Thanksgiving. I actually struggled a bit trying to come up with a related book since I really don’t read holiday books. There are many that pass through the holidays as part of their story, but I don’t read many centered around them. Having said that, my choice for this week isn’t specifically about thanksgiving either, but it’s about the journey of the pilgrims who were the first to celebrate Thanksgiving, so I think that’s close enough 😉

The Mayflower Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

Monday, 12 June 1620
Leyden, Holland

A splinter of wood pierced Mary Elizabeth Chapman’s thumb as she crept behind her lifelong friend Dorothy Raynsford.

I read this book earlier in the year along with several others that have been released in the series. It’s a wonderful series and one I highly recommend looking into! You can see my full review of The Mayflower Bride HERE.

About the Book:

A New Series Begins for Lovers of History, Adventure, Romance, and Ancestry
A brand new series for fans of all things related to history, romance, adventure, faith, and family trees.

Mary Chapman boards the Speedwell in 1620 as a Separatist seeking a better life in the New World. William Lytton embarks on the Mayflower as a carpenter looking for opportunities to succeed—and he may have found one when a man from the Virginia Company offers William a hefty sum to keep a stealth eye on company interests in the new colony. The season is far too late for good sailing and storms rage, but reaching land is no better as food is scarce and the people are weak. Will Mary survive to face the spring planting and unknown natives? Will William be branded a traitor and expelled?

Join the adventure as the Daughters of the Mayflower series begins with The Mayflower Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse.

About the Author:An image posted by the author.

Kim is a devoted wife and mother, and a third generation Liszt student. She has passed down her love of the arts to hundreds of students over the years, recorded three albums, and appeared at over 700 venues.

Her quick wit, enthusiasm, and positive outlook through difficult circumstances have gained her audiences at conferences, retreats, churches, military functions, and seminars all over the country.

The Woodhouse family’s story has been on the front page of newspapers, in magazines, articles, medical journals, and most recently featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. They were also asked to share their story on The Montel Williams Show and Discovery Health Channel’s Mystery ER.

Kim has been writing seriously for fifteen years. Songs, plays, short stories, novels, picture books, articles, newsletters – you name it – she’s written it. It wasn’t until a dear friend challenged her to “do something with it”, that she pursued publication. She now has multiple books to her credit, with more on the way.

Kim lives, writes, and homeschools in Colorado with her husband and their two children in a truly “Extreme” home.

Now it’s your turn!

  1. Hi, Becca! I won this book. Looking forward to reading it 🙂

I posted about The Plum Blooms in Winter (Linda Thompson) on my blog.
    So, I’ll share a line from a non-fiction book I am reading.

`The Sparkle Effect` (Kristen Dalton Wolfe)

    Chapter 3 (page 15)

“For the longest time, I didn’t have a sense of style. I looked to other people and trends to decide what I should wear.”

  2. Paula Shreckhise

Here’s my first line from The Making of Mrs. Hale by Carolyn Miller:

Julia Hale lifted a weary hand and rapped on the yellow painted door. Please let me in. please!

  3. Happy Black Friday! On my blog, I’m featuring A Holiday By Gaslight by Mimi Matthews. Here I will share the first line from the book I’m currently reading, A Handcarved Christmas by Cynthia Hickey which takes place in 1880 Montana. “Laura Worth wrapped her wool shawl tighter around her shoulders and peered out the train station window.” Enjoy your weekend and happy reading!

    • Yes it is! The stories can all be read as stand-alones because they are individual stories with people simply related to those from the beginning. I recommend reading the others too! 🙂

Happy Friday and Happy Weekend! My first line (and 3rd line because I love this line) is from “Reaching Her Heart” by Kimberly Rae Jordan:

“Tristan Callaghan moved to the side of the long hallway to let a young couple pass, giving them a smile and a nod before continuing on… What on earth had possessed him to agree to teach Sunday School to seven and eight-year-old boys?”

  5. Ellie

I’m currently reading From the Start by Melissa Tagg. The first line is “How in the world had rain earned such a romantic rep?” I hope you have a nice weekend!

  6. Happy Friday!

My first lines come from Hearts In Harmony by Beth Wiseman……

I had never been to an Englisch funeral before today. I’ve only been to one funeral , when Uncle John died last year. But I’m only ten so maybe that’s why. This funeral was different from Uncle John’s. There were a lot of flowers inside the church and people singing.

Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!😊💕

  7. oooo – I’ve heard so many good things about this book, I’m so glad I came across your blog to hear more good stuff on it – I’ll definitely be adding it to my TBR now! 😀
