I have decided to join the fun for First Line Fridays!
The first book I am featuring is:
With You Always
by Jody Hedlund.
My First Line:
Elise Neumann stared out the cracked third-story window to the muddy street below, watching the omnibuses and carriages slog their way through the muck.
Full review can be found here.
Now it’s your turn!
Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line. To see what First Lines others are sharing this week head over to Hoarding Books.
Jody Hedlund always has beautiful covers, but there’s a big contrast between this cover and that first line!
I’m featuring Hurricane Season by Lauren Denton on my blog today, but I’m going to share the first line from the book I’m currently reading. Here’s the first line from A Chance at Forever by Melissa Jagears:
“I wish you luck, George.”
“It’s Aaron now. Don’t forget.” Aaron Firebrook tried not to let Mr. Gray’s slip of the tongue make him even more nervous.
You’re right it does look like a big contrast! The book is part of an orphan train series and Jody shares in the author’s note that each book is meant to highlight a different aspect of it. This book highlights the women who were sent west to find work. So the book starts out in NYC but then the oldest sister Elise is sent to a budding town in Illinois to find work and hopefully support her siblings. I just finished the book last night so I just published my review if you’d like to check it out. The direct link is: https://thebeccafiles.wordpress.com/2018/03/23/with-you-always-orphan-train-1/
LOVE Jody Hedlund!
Opening the door was the hardest part. Not that she expected to find it locked, because no one out here in this part of Texas ever locked anything. The Countess and the Cowboy by Kathleen Y’Barbo from the Seven Brides for Seven Texas Rangers Romance Collection
Happy Friday and Happy Reading! 🙂
The book I’m featuring on my blog this week is Love on the Mend by Karen Witemeyer. I love all the books I’ve read of hers. Here, I will share the first line of chapter 17 from the book I’m currently reading, The Social Tutor by Sally Britton. “Thomas waited for her arrival, this time on Christine’s side of the brook, his breath turning to fog in the cold air.” Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
I love Karen Whitemeyer! I just bought her No Other Will Do book last weekend 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful weekend too!
I love this book so much. I can’t wait for book #2!
I’m sharing the first two lines from A Most Noble Heir by Susan Anne Mason on my blog today. Here, I will post the first line from the novel I’m currently reading, Beneath the Surface by Lynn H. Blackburn.
“Homicide investigator Ryan Parker flashed a thumbs-up to his dive buddy and fellow homicide investigator, Gabe Chavez.”
Let me tell you, that thumbs-up quickly becomes a thumbs-down!!! This book is really gripping. I can’t figure it out!!!
Happy Friday.
Lol that thumbs-down could be so many things!
I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of book #2 from NetGalley and the review is found here: https://thebeccafiles.wordpress.com/2018/03/27/together-forever-orphan-train-2/ It was another great read! Now to wait for #3 lol
Happy Friday! My first line is from Bridgette by Patricia PacJac Carroll:
“Bridgette, get up. The sun and the rest of us have been working for three hours.”
Oh the struggle when you’re a night-owl lol 🙂
Hi Becca! You made it! Welcome to FLF!!! I don’t get around to visit everyone every week but I wanted to drop in and say hi! Thanks for dropping by Faithfully Bookish as well! I look forward to getting to know you in the weeks to come 🙂
Thank you! FLF is new to me but I think it’s so much fun! I love getting to know other book lovers like me! 🙂
Happy Friday!
My first lines are “Poppy!” Jamie came rushing out of the office and into the ktichen. The grin on his face made my heart flutter, just like it always did, which meant I’d been a mess of flutters since the day I met him five years ago.
It’s from The Birthday List by Devney Perry
Have a great weekend!
I’m sharing from Mary Connealy’s Now and Forever on my blog today, but here are the first lines of another second in series book with a heroine that loves tending her sheep, Beloved Hope by Tracie Peterson:
Oregon City, Oregon
May 1850
“You can’t be serious.” Hope Flanagan looked at the man who sat opposite her at her sister and brother-in-law’s kitchen table. “You expect me to testify at the Cayuse trial.”
Happy Friday!
Hi Becca! Welcome to FLF! I wasn’t able to make my usual round this past Friday, so I’m playing catch-up today! This is such a wonderful story from Jody Hedlund!
Thanks! Yes, I really enjoyed it myself and read #2 this week as well. Too bad #3 doesn’t come out until the end of the year :-/
Right?! I’m looking forward to reading it 🙂
