Happy Friday!

The book I’m featuring this week is:

before-i-saw-you

Amazon | Goodreads

“Hope means everything when you’ve got nothing, and hope’s all I have when I leave my brother, Jayden, to check on the baby rabbits.”

Sounds like this book is going to be an emotional one! I just got my hands on a copy from my library so I plan on reading this book this week. I’ve heard a lot of great things about this book and it’s been on my TBR for a while now. Can’t wait to read it!

About the Book:

Folks are dying fast as the ash trees in the southern Indiana town ravaged by the heroin epidemic, where Jaycee Givens lives with nothing more than a thread of hope and a quirky neighbor, Sudie, who rescues injured wildlife. After a tragedy leaves her mother in prison, Jaycee is carrying grief and an unplanned pregnancy she conceals because she trusts no one, including the kind and handsome Gabe, who is new to town and to the local diner where she works.

Dividing her time between the diner and Sudie’s place, Jaycee nurses her broken heart among a collection of unlikely friends who are the closest thing to family that she has. Eventually, she realizes she can’t hide her pregnancy any longer–not even from the baby’s abusive father, who is furious when he finds out. The choices she must make for the safety of her unborn child threaten to derail any chance she ever had for hope and redemption. Ultimately, Jaycee must decide whether the truest form of love means hanging on or letting go.

Includes discussion guide.

  1. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one. It’s on my TBR too.

I’m featuring ‘Shadow Sister’ by Katherine Scott Jones on my blog today, but right now I’ve just started reading another book that’s been on my TBR since it came out: ‘The Raveling’ by Tamara Leigh. At last!

“He had lost a son he had not known he had–providing the child was his.”

    Have a great weekend!

    • I’m going to be on a long car ride today so I’ll get to start reading mine. I don’t think I’ve heard of The Raveling but interesting first line!

  2. Iola Goulton

This sounds like a great read!

I’m sharing the first line from Justice by Emily Conrad on my blog today. It was an unexpected read – the cover gave me the impression it was a historical romance, but it was most definitely a contemporary.

  3. Patsy Curry

    Prologue
    Barony of Kilbourne, Northern England
    Winter, 1308
“You ask that we betray our leige?”
From the Baron of Godsmere. Book one of The Feud series by Tamara Leigh.
I highly recommend all of Tamara’s books!

  4. Happy Friday!😊

My first lines come from a book I will be reading shortly, Unleashed by Donna Kauffman.

Emma Lafferty’s life had gone to the dogs. Literally. And to the cats. And the parakeets, goldfish, hamsters, even the occasional potbelly pig. What it and her fledgling pet-sitting service hadn’t gone to was her bank account. Not enough, anyway.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊📚💖

  5. I love that there are baby rabbits! The cover is pretty too!

Happy Friday! I shared a different one over on my blog, but I’m also reading Silence the Girls by Pat Barker that takes place in ancient Troy.

“Great Achilles. Brilliant Achilles, shining Achilles, godlike Achilles . . . How the epithets pile up.”

    Happy reading!

    • I don’t like that the author says, “blanklike” here, and I meant to edit it out, but the narrator is raising the problems with Achilles with that opening statement. I sincerely hope I didn’t offend. I am truly sorry if I did.

  6. That’s a unique premise and an attention-grabbing first line.

Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Lynnette Bonner’s High Desert Haven. Here, I’ll share one of my favorite lines from Crossed Out by Christina Coryell (her contribution to the Once Upon A Laugh novella collection):

Kids at yard sales were nearly impossible to corral. Grandmas watching kids at yard sales were like wild mustangs, throwing caution and endless quarters to the wind.

  7. Happy reading! I’m sharing the first line of “A Worthy Rebel” on my blog today. I’ll share the first line of my current read, Sarah Loudin Thomas’s “A Shot at Love,” here: “Fleeta hunkered low, careful not to rattle the crisp fallen leaves all around her.”

  8. This one does sound emotional, great first line though.

Mine is from Sweet Blooms by Dean Hodel. A novella about going home.

“She had waited long enough, it was time to go home.”

  9. It does sound intense. I’m not posting a First Line Friday this week because I simply don’t have time. I just became a great-aunt yesterday and am entertaining family from out of time. Some things are simply more important than reading. This is one of them. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  10. I’m featuring lines from Danielle Norman’s upcoming release Roadster on my blog.

Here, I’m sharing lines from Keira Montclair’s Falling for the Chieftan. It’s her new historical time travel romance.

“Allison Sutton’s feet hit water as she plunged into the murky liquid at the base of the cascading falls.”

    Happy Reading!

  11. That does sound like you might want to have tissues handy! I”m featuring Starting From Scratch by Kate Lloyd on my blog, so here is a line from page 11:

“A few minutes later I sat on the suitcase’s lid while Marta fastened the metal latches with gusto.”

    Happy Friday!

  12. Happy Saturday!

Yesterday on my blog, I shared the first lines from Cara Putman’s novel Delayed Justice. Here I will share the first line from the novel I’m currently reading, An Unpresentable Glory by Eleanor Gustafson.

“On her return from church, Kileenda Jensen discovered a problem, and it had nothing to do with her name.”

Hope you have an awesome weekend!!! 😀🧡📚

I know I’m late for Friday, so happy Labor Day weekend! My first line is from Under Prairie Skies by Cynthia Roemer.

“The sound of a spry whistle froze Charlotte Stanton in her tracks. She tightened her hold on her bucket of creek water, eyes narrowing.”
