Happy Friday!

The book I’m featuring this week is:

A Changed Agent

1890’s Adirondack Mountains
New York State

“My Trunk!” Elsie Mitchell watched in horror as her trunk fell off the over packed porter’s wagon, spilling its contents onto the platform at the Albany train station.

Uh oh, looks like she doesn’t start out with much luck! I discovered this book from the Christian Reading Safari that was run by The Singing Librarian. I live in NY but not in the Adirondacks, however my dad was born and raised in the “North Country” as they call it. I definitely hope to get the chance to read this one very soon 🙂

About the Book:

When schoolteacher Elsie Mitchell meets rugged William Benton on a train platform in Albany, it appears they have nothing in common. He isn’t the sort of fellow a proper young woman of the 1890s would ever speak to, much less become involved with. But when she arrives at her small town in the Adirondack Mountains, Elsie is offered a job as caregiver for this mysterious out-of-towner’s niece and nephew, who’ve been tragically orphaned. Heartbroken for them, she accepts.

Unknown to her, William is an undercover Pinkerton agent posing as a lumber-company foreman. He’s never wanted family—his work is too dangerous. Yet as Elsie transforms his house into a home and he spends time with the children, he feels drawn to family life—and to Elsie.

As a good Christian, Elsie is troubled by William’s secrets…though she does find him intriguing. And when a sinister figure from her past arrives, Elsie and William will have to trust in faith and newfound love to protect their unlikely family from danger.

About the Author:tracey-j-lyons

I always liked to play make-believe. So writing fiction seemed like a natural progression in my life. What started out as a little girl imagining that all those hidden nooks and crannies in my back yard were castles and mansions, evolved into a teenager wanting to become an actress, and ended up turning into a young woman writing romance novels.

I have an Associates Degree in Theatre Arts.  Married for 31 years to my high-school sweetheart, we are the proud parents of two sons, and one daughter-in-law. After living in upstate NY for the better part of my life, my husband and I packed it in moving to the San Francisco Bay area. We were there for three years and then we packed again moving back to New York State. We’ve finally settled in a small town in Orange County, New York.

I sold my first historical romance novel, Mountain Jewel, on 9/9/99! Remember that was the day everyone thought all the computers were going to crash! After a nearly four year wait, I sold my second, third and fourth on my mother’s birthday 7/10/2003! A Surprise For Abigail, Lydia’s Passion and Making Over Maggie are part of The Women of Surprise series published by Avalon Books.

Now it’s your turn!

  1. I really need to read one of Tracey’s books soon!

Here’s the first line from Elizabeth Goddard’s “Stormy Haven,” a Love Inspired Suspense book.

    “Only three more miles…”

    Happy Friday!

  2. Happy Friday!😎

My first lines come from a book I’m reading shortly, Living in Harmony by Mary Ellis.

The rain’s finally stopped. We’re late. I’d better get you home before your father comes looking for us carrying his squirrel rifle—thunderstorm or no.”

“Hmm,” replied Amy. John’s attempt at humor fell short of its mark.

Have a relaxing weekend and happy reading!😊

  3. Becca, after reading the description of this book, I went right to Amazon and purchased a copy. My father-in-law was born and raised in the Adirondack Mountains. He led our family up Crane Mountain one summer to see the beautiful views. Hiking sticks were a necessity. It was quite a strenuous hike, but well worth the effort. Anway, I just had to buy this one. I’m so glad you told us about it. The book I’m sharing on my blog is “His Bluestocking Bride” by Sally Britton. Here, I will share the first line from Chapter 17. “Tucked up in her favorite chair by the library fire, Ellen turned the page in an interesting volume on the subject of astronomy.” May you be able to fully enjoy your weekend!

    • Yay! My dad was raised just above the Adirondacks, in the tippy top of NY so it’s still the area of his “home-turf” and a place I love to visit. I love being able to read a book and actually knowing the area it takes place in. Hope you enjoy it too!

  4. Iola Goulton

I read this a while back and enjoyed it. It’s got such a pretty cover!

Today I’m sharing from Formula of Deception by Carrie Stuart Parks on my blog. It’s a standalone thriller, not part of her Gwen Marcey series, and it’s set in Alaska – always a great start! I don’t have a line to share here because I’ve been editing this week, not reading, and the first line might change. I’ll be sharing it just as soon as I get permission from the author 🙂

My first line comes from The Choice by Robert Whitlow,,,

    Rutland, Georgia, 1974

Sandy Lincoln nervously twirled her long blond hair around her index finger.

    Happy Friday and happy reading!

  6. Ellie

That first line sounds like it could cause some stress! I’m currently reading Elizabeth Maddrey’s Donuts & Daydreams which I’m really enjoying. The first line is “‘Oh, thank goodness you’re still open.'” I hope you have a nice weekend!

  7. I’m sharing lines from A.L. Jackson’s upcoming release More of You on my blog today. It’s a second chance romance.

Here, I’ll be sharing lines from My Kinda Forever by Lacey Black.

“It’s a Summer sister tradition that on the first Saturday of each month, the six of us get together.  We take turns picking the location or activity, anything from margaritas and a movie to wine and painting classes at the small uptown gallery.  One thing, though, is as certain as the sun rising over the Chesapeake Bay every morning: there will be alcohol  involved. “

    Happy Reading!

  8. I enjoyed A Changed Agent. I’m featuring my newest book by a favorite author, Early Riser by Jasper Fforde. I flipped a bit forward to page 15, so I could share another line:

“There was an intake of breath. It was the mission statement of the Campaign for Real Sleep, sort of a rallying cry.”

    Happy Friday!

  9. Happy Saturday! 😀

Yesterday on my blog, I shared the first few lines from Monstrous Beauty by Carol E. Keen. I’m just really getting into the book, so I’ll share another line from that book here:

“Tucking an errant group of hair behind her ear, Annabelle Giles planned out her morning.”

Hope you have a great weekend filled with excellent reading time! 😀📚

Happy Saturday! I hope you really enjoy this one and find some relaxing time to read it.

Thanks for stopping by my post and commenting!

My first line is from a book that might not appeal to everyone so I will just leave the link to my blog if anyone wants to check it out.
