Uh oh, looks like she doesn’t start out with much luck! I discovered this book from the Christian Reading Safari that was run by The Singing Librarian. I live in NY but not in the Adirondacks, however my dad was born and raised in the “North Country” as they call it. I definitely hope to get the chance to read this one very soon 🙂
About the Book:
When schoolteacher Elsie Mitchell meets rugged William Benton on a train platform in Albany, it appears they have nothing in common. He isn’t the sort of fellow a proper young woman of the 1890s would ever speak to, much less become involved with. But when she arrives at her small town in the Adirondack Mountains, Elsie is offered a job as caregiver for this mysterious out-of-towner’s niece and nephew, who’ve been tragically orphaned. Heartbroken for them, she accepts.
Unknown to her, William is an undercover Pinkerton agent posing as a lumber-company foreman. He’s never wanted family—his work is too dangerous. Yet as Elsie transforms his house into a home and he spends time with the children, he feels drawn to family life—and to Elsie.

About the Author:
I always liked to play make-believe. So writing fiction seemed like a natural progression in my life. What started out as a little girl imagining that all those hidden nooks and crannies in my back yard were castles and mansions, evolved into a teenager wanting to become an actress, and ended up turning into a young woman writing romance novels.
I have an Associates Degree in Theatre Arts. Married for 31 years to my high-school sweetheart, we are the proud parents of two sons, and one daughter-in-law. After living in upstate NY for the better part of my life, my husband and I packed it in moving to the San Francisco Bay area. We were there for three years and then we packed again moving back to New York State. We’ve finally settled in a small town in Orange County, New York.
I sold my first historical romance novel, Mountain Jewel, on 9/9/99! Remember that was the day everyone thought all the computers were going to crash! After a nearly four year wait, I sold my second, third and fourth on my mother’s birthday 7/10/2003! A Surprise For Abigail, Lydia’s Passion and Making Over Maggie are part of The Women of Surprise series published by Avalon Books.

Becca, after reading the description of this book, I went right to Amazon and purchased a copy. My father-in-law was born and raised in the Adirondack Mountains. He led our family up Crane Mountain one summer to see the beautiful views. Hiking sticks were a necessity. It was quite a strenuous hike, but well worth the effort. Anway, I just had to buy this one. I’m so glad you told us about it. The book I’m sharing on my blog is “His Bluestocking Bride” by Sally Britton. Here, I will share the first line from Chapter 17. “Tucked up in her favorite chair by the library fire, Ellen turned the page in an interesting volume on the subject of astronomy.” May you be able to fully enjoy your weekend!
Yay! My dad was raised just above the Adirondacks, in the tippy top of NY so it’s still the area of his “home-turf” and a place I love to visit. I love being able to read a book and actually knowing the area it takes place in. Hope you enjoy it too!
