Happy Friday!

The book I’m featuring this week is:

Where the Crawdads Sing

Amazon | Goodreads

“Marsh is not swamp.”

First off I want to share that this NOT a CF read but it is one that I have been told time and again by multiple friends that I needed to read it. One of my sisters-in-law who I frequently deal books to recently lent it to me and said it was amazing. So earlier tonight I started it. I’m only about 50 pages in and have already seen a few instances of language, but the story has grasped my attention. As a book that has garnered much attention since it’s release, I’m curious to see where the story goes.

About the Book:

For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life–until the unthinkable happens.

Perfect for fans of Barbara Kingsolver and Karen Russell, Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Now it’s your turn!

  1. This one definitely sounds interesting, and I’ll be looking forward to hearing what you end up thinking about it.

On my blog this week, I’m sharing the opening lines from Love and a Little White Lie by Tammy L Gray, and it’s honestly been one of my favorite reads this year.

“I’ve face planted myself into rock bottom. Well, maybe a hammock above rock bottom-one my aunt Doreen graciously set out for me when I found myself abandoned and broke.”

I hope you have a lovely weekend with lots of reading time 🙂

  2. “The thunder rolled across the dusty fields of yellowing and stunted corn, announcing the start of the storm. First line in Mike Flinn’s brand new “May Angels Fly With You,” a historical novel set in Depression Era Iowa.

  3. Paula Shreckhise

My first lines are from MINUTES TO DIE by Susan Sleeman:
    Chapter 1
Exposed. Kiley felt exposed. Standing there. In the dark. Waiting. Waiting.

  4. I have a copy of Where the Crawdads Sing and want to read it, I just haven’t had a chance too, yet! Today, I’m sharing the first lines from Wedded to War by Jocelyn Green. “When Charlotte and Alice told their mother they were taking the omnibus down Broadway, they weren’t lying. They just didn’t tell her where they would be getting off.”

  5. Happy Friday! 🙂
I’m currently reading A Life Once Dreamed by Rachel Fordham. I’m on chapter seven so I’ll share the first line from there:
“Sam Landon made his way over to the schoolhouse, toolbox in one hand, lunch tin in the other.”
I hope you have an excellent weekend! 🙂❤📚

  6. I hope you enjoy it Becca. I listened to it and the audio was amazing. This story makes you feel like youi are right there, it is so descriptive.
