Happy Friday!

This week I’m featuring:

The Road to Paradise (Vintage National Parks, #1)

Amazon | Goodreads

The promised view of the mountain peak waited, cloaked in mist like a tissue-wrapped gift not ready to be unveiled.

Not that I wasn’t already doing a lot of reading this year already, but this whole “stuck at home 24/7” thing has had me reading even more. For the first time in a while I’ve actually gotten myself on top of scheduled reviews and it’s given me a bit of a window to tackle some of my older TBR. I bought a copy of this one at FRS last year and was able to get it signed by the author, but I embarrassingly haven’t had the chance to read it yet. It’s up next after the current series I’m reading now though. Can’t wait to dig into it!

About the Book:

An ideal sanctuary and a dream come true–that’s what Margaret Lane feels as she takes in God’s gorgeous handiwork in Mount Rainier National Park. It’s 1927 and the National Park Service is in its youth when Margie, an avid naturalist, lands a coveted position alongside the park rangers living and working in the unrivaled splendor of Mount Rainier’s long shadow.

But Chief Ranger Ford Brayden is still haunted by his father’s death on the mountain, and the ranger takes his work managing the park and its crowd of visitors seriously. The job of watching over an idealistic senator’s daughter with few practical survival skills seems a waste of resources.

When Margie’s former fiancé sets his mind on developing the Paradise Inn and its surroundings into a tourist playground, the plans might put more than the park’s pristine beauty in danger. What will Margie and Ford sacrifice to preserve the splendor and simplicity of the wilderness they both love?

Karen Barnett’s vintage national parks novels bring to vivid life President Theodore Roosevelt’s vision for protected lands, when he wrote in Outdoor Pastimes of an American Hunter: “There can be nothing in the world more beautiful than the Yosemite, the groves of the giant sequoias and redwoods, the Canyon of the Colorado, the Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Three Tetons; and our people should see to it that they are preserved for their children and their children’s children forever, with their majestic beauty all unmarred.”

About the Author:Karen Barnett

Karen Barnett is the award-winning author of the Golden Gate Chronicles (Out of the Ruins, Beyond the Ashes, Through the Shadows) and MISTAKEN. She lives in Oregon with her husband, two kids, and a bevy of furry friends. You can learn more about Karen’s writing journey at http://www.KarenBarnettBooks.com.

I’m reading AN AMISH CHRISTMAS KITCHEN. Since it consists of three novellas, I’ll give the first line of each.

The vase slipped through Noelle’s hand and shattered on the Kicha floor.
An Amish Family Christmas by Leslie Gould

Ada Weaver eyed the frozen puddle in front of the door of Heritage Amish Furniture, a stack of boxed baked goods balance in one hand, her key to the store in the other.
An Amish Christmas Recipe Box by Jan Drexler

The moment I saw the sign for Miller’s Quilts and Gifts through the onslaught of snow, my throat constricted as if I’d swallowed a handful of salt.
An Unexpected Christmas Gift by Kate Lloyd

  2. Paula Shreckhise

My first line is from Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters:

Pecca Gallegos never thought she’d be turning down a marriage proposal—much less four of them.

    Just finished thus wonderful book!

Karen’s trilogy is on my shelf waiting to be read!

  3. Happy Friday!

I’ve never personally heard of The Road to Paradise, but it sounds really interesting.

I’m definitely in the same boat with having way more reading time right now, and am finally catching up on all my review books as well.

My line this week is from Becky Wade’s Take a Chance on Me:

“The hospital’s electronic doors whooshed open as Penelope Quinn rushed toward the emergency room.”

    Have a great weekend!

  4. I’m currently reading Seven Brides of South Dakota series by Kari Trumbo. The first line in the 9th Chapter in the first book is, “The bitter cold numbed her toes through her boots and wool stockings as Ruby rushed to the Moore house.” I wish you a blessed weekend.

Happy Friday! My first line is from “Marry Me” by Autumn Macarthur:

“The intercom on the hospital room wall beeped, interrupting Melanie and Alia’s fast and furious clapping game and their storm of giggles.”

  6. A favorite series of mine – hope you enjoy! I’m sharing from The Story Peddler by Lindsay A. Franklin today. Here is the first line from chapter 3:

“It wasn’t easy to open the front door of my cottage with a bread bowl of stew in my hands and a jug of milk under one arm. But I managed.”

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
