About the Book:

Trish Bailey is on overload trying to deal with a demanding job, an ailing mother, and a healing heart. When a series of unsettling memory lapses leads to a tragic death–and puts Trish under police scrutiny–her world is once again thrown into turmoil.

Detective Colin Flynn isn’t certain what to think of the facts he uncovers during his investigation. Did Trish simply make a terrible mistake or is there more to the case than meets the eye? As he searches for answers, disturbing information begins to emerge–and if the forces at work are as evil as he suspects, the situation isn’t just dangerous . . . it’s deadly.

Bestselling and award-winning author Irene Hannon captures readers with a mind-bending story that will have them doubling back to retrace their steps–and figure out what they missed!

My Review:

Talk about suspense! I will not share anything storyline related because I don’t want to give anything away, but I am always amazed when I can be shocked by the twists and turns in a story. This story was like being on a rollercoaster ride while blindfolded.

Just as in movies, books often have a bit of “predictability” to them. Even if you don’t figure everything out, you’re at least not totally shocked. I really went into this story not knowing what to expect and not knowing where Irene was going to go with the characters. My “book nerd” detective wheels were spinning in my brain, but I honestly wasn’t expecting the outcome. This is all I will say on the matter because I honestly don’t want to spoil anything, but I was amazed with the author’s mastermind.

The only thing in this story that I really didn’t care for was the romance. It was cheesy and felt inappropriate. The romance was clean, but when a detective falls immediately head-over-heels for a woman he just met who is mourning the loss of a loved one (and happens to be a suspect in foul play)– it just doesn’t feel right. I liked the characters themselves and felt they worked well together as a team, but the romance to me felt weird.

With that aside, I felt the story itself was amazingly written and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. This was a book I didn’t want to put down, and it certainly got my heart pumping. I highly recommend it to suspense and crime fiction fans.

Rating: 4.5 stars

Age Appropriateness/Content Warnings:

*PLEASE NOTE: This section may contain mild spoilers but I do my best to reveal the difficult and/or triggering content without giving away the story

This story is a typical crime & romantic suspense. The romance itself is clean, but you will find murder, stalking, etc typical of crime fiction novels. My personal recommendation is for ages 15 and up.

    • I enjoyed both books but I personally liked this one more. I got Hidden Peril for review as well but my gramma-in-law had a copy of this one so I was able to read them in order 🙂 Hope you enjoy!
