But when Casey is dragged back into the abusive world she came from, the emotional trauma, pain and distrust resurfaces. Will they be forever bound by their past? Or will God answer their prayers?
My Review:
This was a fast paced read that kept me on the edges of my seat needing to know what would happen next. Fortunately at under 200 pages, it didn’t take me long to get through without staying up too late past my bedtime. The writing style felt more like the younger side of young adult reads, but the content itself was more mature. Both main characters have alcoholic and abusive parents, and there is some drug usage and forced dealing that occurs. It’s evident the author attempted to make the POV as authentic as possible to young children. In my opinion some of Casey and Levi’s reactions seemed to start off as one would expect, but then turned around to compliance much faster than would be expected. It kept the pace of the book going, but also took away from some of the believability. Despite that, there was a lot of action throughout the read and the author did a great job of setting up the end of the chapters in such a way that the pages simply had to keep turning. All in all it was a good read and easily held my attention.
