His Encouragement #73

Happy Thursday!

I am blessed to be a part of a group of bloggers who feel led to share a bit of encouragement each week from the Bible. We recognize our daily need for Christ and we aim to share that with our readers. Plus, when Thursday comes around, we can all use a little encouragement right? I hope that this post blesses you and that you find comfort, strength, and peace in the Lord today ❤

Happy Thanksgiving!

Earlier tonight (I’m writing this Wednesday evening), I drove to my home church and brought a friend with me for a night of worship there in preparation for Thanksgiving. While it was mostly music there was a short message that was given where the pastor focused on two verses. The first was 1 Thessalonians 5:18 which says “ in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” The second was Ephesians 5:20 which says “giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” I found it interesting that the words he chose to focus on were “in” and “for.” How often do we face difficult circumstances and while we may be able to find things to be thankful for while we’re in them, it’s not so easy to be thankful for them. Sometimes being thankful can come easily, and other times it takes effort. When we are able to step back and see that the Lord knows our every circumstance and has already gone before us and knows how everything will work out, we can be thankful that He is with us and won’t leave us to fend for ourselves. He will help us and wants us to lean on Him and trust Him. Things don’t always work out the way we want or hope them to, but nothing escapes God and He already knows the outcome. In our desire to control our circumstances and how they will be handled, we can lose sight of the Lord and the work He wants to do in us and through us. Being thankful both in and for things is a mark of spiritual maturity that we find ourselves working towards, but thankfully the Lord is with us to help us.

Hearing that really blessed my heart tonight. I hope it encourages you today as well. I am definitely a work in progress and I know that I fail daily, but it warms my heart to know that God is with me and has already gone before me. Nothing can come as a surprise to Him and I can trust Him. It doesn’t mean that life will be sunshine and butterflies, but it does mean that He won’t leave me alone and that He will help me through whatever I come up against. Hallelujah! ❤
