Happy Release Day!!
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been SUPER excited for the release of Jaime Jo Wright’s latest novel The Curse of Misty Wayfair! I was fortunate enough to receive an early copy so I’ve already had the chance to read it. You can view my full review HERE. Want a sneak peek at the first chapter? You can view that HERE.
About the Book:
Left at an orphanage as a child, Thea Reed vowed to find her mother someday. Now grown, her search takes her to Pleasant Valley, Wisconsin, in 1908. When clues lead her to a mental asylum, Thea uses her experience as a post-mortem photographer to gain access and assist groundskeeper Simeon Coyle in photographing the patients and uncovering the secrets within. However, she never expected her personal quest would reawaken the legend of Misty Wayfair, a murdered woman who allegedly haunts the area and whose appearance portends death.
A century later, Heidi Lane receives a troubling letter from her mother—who is battling dementia—compelling her to travel to Pleasant Valley for answers to her own questions of identity. When she catches sight of a ghostly woman who haunts the asylum ruins in the woods, the long-standing story of Misty Wayfair returns—and with it, Heidi’s fear for her own life.
As two women across time seek answers about their identities and heritage, can they overcome the threat of the mysterious curse that has them inextricably intertwined?

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever traveled and/or would like to travel to?
Rome! My soul belongs there. I loved every nuance, corner, essence, and aura found in Rome. I can’t wait to return someday.
I love how funny you can be on many of your Facebook posts. What’s something quirky about you that people probably don’t know?
Something quirky, huh? Well, I have to match my morning coffee mug to whatever I’m wearing. They can’t clash colors or styles. Theme of mug must match theme of clothing.
What’s one exciting thing you’ve always wanted to do but is currently sitting on your bucket list?
Go deep sea fishing for swordfish…you saw that one coming, didn’t you? LOL
So I made the mistake of starting Misty Wayfair at night… Do you actually write at night? Or do you ever spook yourself while you’re writing?
I write whenever I have a chance. So my stories are no respecter of time–neither are my children. LOL Rarely, do I spook myself writing. I did once in Misty Wayfair, but typically, that doesn’t happen. It takes a lot to spook me.
Before the Christy Awards I saw you post on Facebook that you were with some friends (or sisters?) and you were “scheming up” some new ideas. Do you find that you actually get a lot of inspiration from those nights or does it usually come from elsewhere?
Usually, it comes from inside my head. Which may not be complimentary to me …hmmmm 😉 But yes, being able to bounce ideas and schemes off my writing sisters is definitely helpful in deepening my projects!
Was there anything interesting (without spoilers) that you learned in your research for Misty Wayfair that made it into the story?
There was probably more things interesting i learned that DIDN’T make it into the story. Simply, because the top of asylums and mental institutions of the day were so very, very dark. Although, I did learn quite a bit about post mortem photography and several of those tidbits made their way into the story.
Did you have a favorite character from the story?
Definitely Emma. She was my favorite by far.
Any chance you can tease about what’s next?
Oh for sure!! Echoes Among the Stones releases this December! It’s a story of a cold case murder from 1946, post-war society, a sister bent on justice, and a granddaughter swimming above the reality of grief. When the voices of the ones they love begin to speak from the grave, both women in both time periods will either learn to listen, or shut the voices out forever.
Ooohh that sounds intriguing!!! Can’t wait!!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these questions Jaime!
Hope you enjoyed that glimpse into the mind of the author! I can’t recommend her latest book The Curse of Misty Wayfair enough! Now that it’s officially released, you can head to your favorite bookstore or purchase online! Happy Reading! 🙂
