Memorable Monday #22

Happy Monday! The purpose of memorable Monday is to showcase a book that you’ve read in the past and share how/why it has stuck with you.

This week I’m featuring:

Somewhere to Belong (Daughters of Amana, #1)

Amazon | Goodreads

Somewhere to Belong is one of the first books that I recall reading with my old neighbor. Sometimes if one of us got a book from the library we really liked, we would share it first before returning it. This book was also my introduction to Judith Miller. I was intrigued by how the community thrived in their way of life. Some friends of mine and I have joked over the years about buying a large piece of property with several houses and we would all live like one big happy family. We even talk about the different jobs everyone would have. Obviously it’s not something that will really happen, but it makes stories with that type of living a bit more fun and interesting to read. Gotta love a little wishful thinking 😉

About the Book:

Johanna Ilg has lived her entire life in Main Amana, one of the seven villages inhabited by devout Christians who believe in cooperative living, a simple lifestyle, and faithful service to God. Although she’s always longed to see the outside world, Johanna believes her future is rooted in the community. But when she learns a troubling secret, the world she thought she knew is shattered and she is forced to make difficult choices about a new life and the man she left behind.

Berta Schumacher has lived a privileged life in Chicago, and when her parents decide they want a simpler life in Amana, Iowa, she resists. Under the strictures of the Amana villages, Berta’s rebellion reaches new heights. Will her heart ever be content among the plain people of Amana?

  1. Happy Monday! I’ve never read anything by Judith Miller. It would be so fun to buy a tract of land and have a bunch of friends live together! Sorry I didn’t participate this week – I didn’t feel well over the weekend and didn’t do much. 😦

  2. I am really enjoying Amish and Christian Fiction having just come back to this genre in the last year or so. I have not read anything by Judith Miller, so I will have to see what my library has. Great share, Becca.
